Jesus Contreras is a fluent English speaking Almerian local. He is a naturalist, wildlife photographer and local historian. Having run tours for some of the biggest names in the holiday industy, including Saga,  he now specialises in small groups. TRIP 1

THE HIDDEN ALMERIA

Travelling across flatlands to the west, we will spot several areas as the "Olive sea in Tabernas" , the gypsum quarries in Sorbas and more. Nice coffee stop and visit to a hidden mountain white-washed village. Up the mountains up to 2000 masl, we enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the desert. After enjoying a wonderful lunch in a local restaurant (cheap and excellent tapas/dishes) we go up to Calar Alto astronomical Observatory, from where we can see nearly all Almeria province from the very highest places in Spain. Down to the desert, we will stop to see several nice places to understand the unique desert in Europe. Back to Bedar.

ALMERIA COAST AND THE DESERT

Travelling by the coast across Mojacar, Carboneras and the Nat Park of Cabo de Gata villages we will enjoy of the most genuine landscapes of the mediterranean coast. Lunch at local restaurant in the coast and back by the desert with several cultural and panoramic stops. Back to Bedar. .

TRIP 3

ROMANTIC GRANADA

Visit to the Alhambra area (we don´t visit the Nasrid palaces) with nice spots of the monument, panoramic point of view of the monument and walk downhill to the authentic Granada places at the Albaicin ancient neighbourhood. Lunch at the best panoramic place in Granada (not expensive) and walk down by narrow streets to Granada downtown, visiting the traditional area of Cathedral and Arab Street Market (Souk). Up to the Alhambra parking for starting our travel back to Almeria and Bedar .

SCENTS OF ARABIA

Arab culture, baths and cuisine at the very heart of the old city at the foot of La Alcazaba. Along this itinerary you will get in touch with the Muslim city of the two most flourishing centuries: s. X and s. XI. Generally, that is not extensive, the visit is usually divided into two parts: The Alcazaba (s.X) inside the Monument of the Alcazaba of Almeria is known, with its gardens, palace and walled enclosures. Almería Muslim. The Medina (s X.): Primitive area of the city and its labyrinthine network of streets, reaching the Church of San Juan where exterior features of the ancient Great Mosque (Wall of Qibla and mihrab niche will be explained is traversed ). Cerro de San Cristobal and Jayrán’S Arab Wells (s XI.) 

You will visit the Cerro de San Cristobal (a magnificent view of the city from which you can admire the walls of Jayrán), the location of the old door Pechina, the wells of Jayrán (10th C),  and the Plaza Vieja (old Muslim souk) After this long  walk it will be time to relax and have lunch in an amazing restaurant where his owner and staff highlight the mixture of Morocan and Andalusian cuisines with their Cheese and Honey Roll, Meat Skewers, Chicken Bastila, Royal Couscous, Desserts and pastries Everything in a warm and magic atmosphere.  

A hallmark of Almeria’s Moorish tradition is its use of water – fountains, pools, and of course the Baños Árabes (Arab baths). So, after our  walk through the narrow, twisty streets and our delicious lunch in Aljthe restaurant  the icing on the cake will be our visit to the Baths which creates spaces and experiences to relax the body and mind according to ancient traditions of water with temperature contrasts as elements of relaxation and health. 

A soothing color scheme in light blue, the waft of essential oils, chunky adobe pillars and the pools with different temperatures will put you in a heavenly state of calm. If any stress lingers, choose some scented oils and treat yourself to an optional massage before plunging into the swimming pool of the ROOFTOP and share a glass of Cava.

Almería is well known as the land where the sun spends the Winter and no one feels like a stranger.

Almeria isa a reflection of the Mediterranean universe and the marks of its splendid past still live on in our streets, squares and sights, most notably our Alcazaba, the second largest Arab construction in Spain, our impressive Cathedral – fortress , the Saint John’s Church, the Medina, the Cable Ingles and the local market amongst others.

ALMERIA'S WONDERS

 

Travelling by the coast across the First Sea-Land Natural Park of volcanic origin Cabo de Gata in Andalusia, La Isleta, Cortijo el Fraile (which inspired the drama in verse by Federico Garcia Lorca entitled Bodas de Sangre) and, Nijar villages we will enjoy of the most genuine landscapes of the inland area and the mediterranean coast.

Learning about the different systems   of irrigation, which are still in use, you will know how they were established and used for agriculture and milling.

Lunch at local restaurant in the coast/inland and back by the desert with several cultural/etnographical and panoramical stops.

RURAL & ARKEO ALMERIA

The human being has lived in the place where Almería is now since time inmemorial. If the province has been the birth of the most ancient cultures in Europe, with the birth of the Neolithic site in Los Millares (3000 BC) and El discovered, showing very early settlements too.

Our visit covers the villages of Gador,  Santa Fe de Mondújar and Terque (here we will visit its amazing ethnographic museums) to the north, Padules (we may taste their famous wines and have some traditional tapas too). Crossed by the Andarax and Almanzora, these being the most important rivers in the area. Gador is a high inland village, with an average altitude of 173 metres at the foot of the Sierra de Gador.

It is of Arab origin, although the name dates back to Phoenician/Iberian times. The area has a wonderful landscape, with farming valleys full of orange groves.

Flamenco - up close and personal!

Maria Jesus has been dancing for approximately 26 years, she dances many types of Andalusian Flamenco and Folk. You will be able to enjoy the experience of watching her dance various types of Flamenco styles, including; Sevillanas, Tanguillos, Bulerías, Alegrías, Tangos Flamencos, Guajiras – flamenco’s with Cuban connotations. Each interpretation will require a change of costume, the whole experience is magical and danced with much feeling and Arte!
